Although some thatch in your lawn is a good thing, too much thatch can cause
fungal diseases to grow and spread. Thatch Control is a high concentration of
the patented microbe, Streptomyces violaceusniger strain YCED 9. This beneficial
microorganism will germinate and grow on harmful thatch at the same time using
the thatch as a food source. Lawns treated with Thatch Control will be hardier,
lusher, more vigorous and better protected from harmful turf diseases.
Excessive thatch is harmful to lawns. Thatch is a tightly interwoven
layer o living and dead tissue existing between the green grass and soil
surface. It is made up mosty of sems, leaf sheaths, grass clippings and roots
that are fairly resistant to decay. Although a little thatch improves the wear
tolerance of a lawn, excessive thatch harbors fungal diseases and insect pests
making the lawn more susceptible disease and drought. In 1995 researchers from
the University of Idaho discovered a unique strain of microorganisim that could
brea down lignin and cellulose, the primary components of thatch, at an amazing
rate. Recently this microorganism, Streptomyces violaceusniger YCED-9, was
patented and developed for consumer use.
Natural Industries Thatch
Control is a high concentration of the patented microorganism, Streptomyces
violaceusniger YCED-9. When applied to lawns these microbes will germinate and
grow on harmful thatch while at the same time using it as a food source. As they
eat the lignin and cellulose within the thatch layer, the microorganisms in
Natural Industries Tatch Control reduce these materials to nutrients and
byproducts useable by plants. Lawns treated with Natural Industries Thatch
Control will be hardier, lusher, more vigorous and better protected.
Active Ingredient:
Streptomyces violaceusniger YCED-9......... 1.0%
Dissolves Natural Industries Thatch Control in the appropriate amount of water to create a solution. Apply solution to soil at a rate of 5 gallons per 1,000 sq. ft. Use 3 tablespoons of Natural Industries Thatch Control per 1,000 sq. ft. for initial application or problem areas. Use 1 tablespoon per 1,000 sq. ft. for maintenance every 4-8 weeks. For best results, use in conjunction with a wetting agent, such as yucca extract or soap based product, in order to help move Natural Industries Thatch Control to the thatch layer of the lawn.
