Nutsedge Nutsedge

ScientificName: Cyprus rotundus and esculentus
Description: Nutsedge thrives in poorly drained soil and spreads through germinating underground tubers. The tubers are the only part of the plant that overwinters.
Organic Control: Use an organic preemergent in the fall and in the spring such as corn gluten meal to stop any new germination from occurring. 20% Vinegar or other acid based weed control products can kill the foliage of any currently established weeds.
Interesting Fact: A yellow nutsedge tuber can produce almost 2,000 plants and over 7,000 new tubers during just one growing season.
