ScientificName: Order Hymenoptera, family Psyllidae, many species
Description: ¼-inch, black bodies with the wings being larger than the body in the adult stage.
Habitat/Food: Psyllids are commonly found in gardens, both ornamental and vegetable, and in trees. They suck the juice from leaves causing them to curl.
Life Cycle: Incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult).
Organic Control: Citrus and plant oil based products are effective against psyllids.
Interesting Fact: Psyllids are also referred to as jumping plant lice due to their enlarged hind legs that enable them to jump very long distances compared to their size.
