Sawfly
ScientificName: Order Hymenoptera, Suborder Symphyta, Many Species
Description: Small, yellow and black bodies with wings. There larvae look like black caterpillars with yellow spots in a line on the sides of their bodies.
Habitat/Food: Typical sawfly larvae are herbivorous, the group feeding on a wide range of plants. Adults of some species are carnivorous, eating other insects, but many also feed on nectar. Life Cycle: Complete metamorphosis
Organic Control: Pyrethrins and many other plant oil based sprays will work well.
Interesting Fact: The common name comes from the appearance of the ovipositor, which looks much like the blade of a saw.
