Whitefly
ScientificName: Order Homoptera, family Aleyrodidae, many species
Description: Up to 1/16-inch long, pale yellow body with white wings that are the largest portion of the insect.
Habitat/Food: Whiteflies usually hide on the underside of leaves in garden areas. They suck sap from plants and cause damage to them if there is a large enough infestation.
Life Cycle: Eggs are laid on the underside of leaves where there is infestation. Whiteflies will generally develop from egg to adult within one month.
Organic Control: Citrus, neem, pyrethrins, and many other plant oil based sprays will work well.
Interesting Fact: Whiteflies have a host range of more than 250 ornamental and vegetable plants.
